Sketches of Minnesota
This year, MHC
launched
Sketches of
Minnesota,
a traveling
program
designed to
increase
understanding
and encourage
conversations
among people
who might not
know each
other or might
have differing
viewpoints,
by bringing
neighbors
together over a
shared meal and
improvisational
comedy.

Our partnership with MHC on Sketches of Minnesota
has been an extraordinary opportunity to connect
with communities across the state. By combining
humor with meaningful dialogue, this initiative opens
doors to deeper understanding, trust, and collaboration
among neighbors. Through laughter and shared
stories, we have witnessed firsthand how powerful it
is to celebrate what makes each community unique.
— Brandon Boat and Tane Danger, Danger Boat Productions
Co-produced with Danger Boat Productions,
Sketches of Minnesota brought this unique
performance to 10 communities across the state
to learn directly from residents about what makes
their community great, what people get wrong
about it, what divisions concern them, and what
they imagine for the future when they work
collectively with their neighbors.
In each town, the Danger Boat troupe listened
in on dinner conversations and then brought the
stories and ideas to the stage. After the show,
MHC facilitated a discussion to learn what stood
out to the audience, what made them laugh, what
gave them pause, and what surprised them. The
most consistent themes were positive: we have more
similarities than we know, and more power to thrive
together when we are willing to listen to one another.
