Southeast Asian Diaspora
Minnesota is home to one of the largest
Southeast Asian communities in the
country, with more than half identifying
as Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, and
Vietnamese
50th Joint Commemoration of the end of the Vietnam War,
Secret War in Laos, and Southeast Asian Conflict
MHC, in collaboration with the Minnesota Historical Society,
worked with the community to plan a legislatively funded joint
commemoration program for the 50th anniversary of the end of
the Vietnam War, Secret War in Laos, and Southeast Asian Conflict.
An MHC Advisory Council was formed with representatives from
each of the five named communities. This Advisory Council,
drawing on their own lived experiences, helped shape the
commemorative programming vision, themes, and events.

and heritage of the Southeastern Asian diaspora at

“ Thank you for listening, bridging
divided communities, and
bringing people together to
preserve history, connect
younger generations, support
those affected by the Vietnam
War, and ensure no one is
forgotten. Stories that touch
others live on forever. Peace.”
