Veteran Recognition Dinner & Pinning Ceremony
This event honored Veterans and their widows from the Cambodian, Hmong, Lao,
Vietnamese, and U.S. Veteran communities. A special message from Governor Walz
was read by Minnesota National Guard Colonel Eduardo A. Suarez, and the keynote
address was given by Brigadier General Simon Schaefer, Director of the Joint Staff
for the Minnesota National Guard.
Immersive, Digital Experience
The floor-to-ceiling projection technology at the Royalston Square event venue in
Minneapolis illuminated the devastation and displacement of war, and deep love for
homelands that were left behind.
Educational Programs and Entertainment
Union Depot in St. Paul drew crowds of people who were treated to a full weekend of
highlights that included panel conversations, historical exhibits, musical performances,
traditional dances, art pieces, and a variety of delicious foods and beverages that
represented culinary treats from throughout Southeast Asia.
Celebrating Tèt
MHC partnered with the Vietnamese Community of Minnesota to preserve and enrich the
cultural heritage of the community through the celebration of the Tèt new year, honoring
the past, present, and future with food, music, dancing, theater, and poetry.
Experiencing Cambodian Temple Watt Munisotaram
MHC partners with the Cambodian American Partnership of Minnesota to take groups
to the Watt Munisotaram, the largest Cambodian Buddhist temple in the United States.
Tour groups explored the intersection of history and spirituality of the Temple. The tour
also provides participants with insight into Cambodia’s complex history, the impact of the
Khmer Rouge genocide, and the Vietnam War which led many Cambodians to seek refuge
in Minnesota.
