Water Stewardship
Water is sacred in Minnesota. The lakes,
rivers, and streams hold memories, provide
food, transport us to new places, and bring
joy and peace to our lives. MHC worked with
partners to capture and amplify the essence,
importance, and history of waterways
throughout Minnesota.
The decade-long partnership between MHC and the Minnesota
Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) continued with the annual
We Are Water MN traveling exhibition, coming to five new locations
in Minnesota. This exhibit brings a community on a journey of how
their region interacts with, conserves, and protects water. Host sites
create engagements for the public throughout the duration of the
exhibition, further extending the network of people who protect
water around the state.
Learn more about how MHC is deepening
the connections between the humanities
and water and how your community can
host the We Are Water MN exhibit at
mnhum.org/water.
We Are Water MN is a project of the MPCA and MHC in partnership
with the Minnesota Historical Society; the Board of Water and Soil
Resources; the Minnesota Departments of Agriculture, Health, and
Natural Resources; and University of Minnesota Extension.
We thank our partners and the 2025 host teams in Ortonville, Ely,
Minneapolis, Henderson, and Bloomington for their commitment
to We Are Water MN and water stewardship in Minnesota.
