Grantmaking
With gratitude to the Minnesota Legislature
in providing funding and identifying
program grant lines through the Arts and
Cultural Heritage Fund, MHC was honored
to be entrusted with administering grants to
artists, authors, storytellers, filmmakers, and
scholars to help them tell their stories, and keep
cultural identities and histories of our diverse
populations strong and vital in the state of
Minnesota. In the 2023-25 grants biennium,
MHC received 810 grant applications and
granted over $15.6 million to 175 organizations.
MHC is proud to shine a light on just a few of the grant recipients
awarded funding to illustrate the impact of grants:
Hennepin History Museum
Festivals Grant
The women-led Hennepin Fest welcomed 1,200 people to
celebrate culture and performances by local women musicians,
poets, artists, and community partners.

Lower Sioux Indian Community
Cultural Heritage Grant
Funding was used to create cultural heritage expertise within
the Cansayapi Cultural Department, collecting and protecting
artifacts, and hiring an archaeology firm to identify areas for
survey and investigation within the ancestral territories of
Mdewakanton Dakota.
