The Sing Again project worked to transcribe
Somali lullabies, originally passed
generation to generation through oral
tradition, into a children’s lullaby book and
website for cultural preservation.
Dakota Wicohan
Cultural Heritage Grant
This grant was used for a program to
guide Dakota youth in the intricate
process of crafting their own dance
regalia outfits and provide dance lessons
for students, preserving the history and
traditions of the Lower Sioux Community
in Minnesota.
Healthy Community Initiative
Arts & Music Education Grant
This initiative increased access to visual
arts, music education, and performing arts
to youth living in rural Rice County who
might otherwise not be able to participate
due to cost and transportation factors.
Minors
Cultural & Ethnic Studies Grant
This grant was used to create a 60-page
Hmong-to-English language book for
6th grade social studies students, which
included a comprehensive photographic
and narrative account of the refugee life
experienced by tens of thousands
of Minnesotans.
(Neo)Muralismos de Mexico
Cultural Heritage Grant
Grant funding was used to revitalize
Mexican cultural heritage through the
creation of a pop-up mobile museum with
art exhibits, installations, and development
opportunities for Minnesota-based Latinx
artists. Funding also supported the creation
and curation of the 10,000 ALEBRIJES
outdoor public art exhibit that featured
giant sculptures representing the spirit
world in Mexican culture.
