Education for the Next Generation
Schools are where students explore who they are, the
world around them, and how to be leaders in our society.
As economic prosperity and democracy are not guaranteed
to any future generation, MHC works with educators, scholars,
and community leaders to exchange best practices, convene
workshops, and create professional development materials
for educators so that every student can be seen and can
thrive in the classroom.
Supporting Educators with Content for Curriculum Development
U.S. Eras Project
Created a yearlong K-12 educator
professional learning opportunity
“Navigating the US History Eras:
Content, Pedagogy, and Inquiry in
the Classroom,” with Minnesota
Department of Education (MDE) to
implement Minnesota’s 2021 Social
Studies Academic Standards.
Educators have access to subject
matter experts, recordings, curated
resources, and collaborative
planning tools.

History Programming
MHC, with funding from the National
Endowment for the Humanities,
traveled to Central, Northwest, and
Southwest Minnesota to provide books
and resources about the history of
Indigenous Boarding Schools to more
than 200 teachers from more than
27 school districts. The collaboration
with Minnesota Service Cooperatives
supported National History Day.
Summer Institute
MHC presented the six-session Leading
Elementary Social Studies Inquiry
(LESSI) Institute to help curriculum and
instruction leaders integrate English
Language Arts and Social Studies
standards into cohesive
inquiry-based lessons that are
engaging, interdisciplinary, and
maximize impact in the classroom.
