Minnesota Civics Summit
A collaborative effort involving the
League of Women Voters, YMCA Center
for Youth Voice, Federal Bar Association,
MN Council on Social Studies, MDE,
TeachingCivics.org, teachers, and
community members supported teachers
in their engagement of students in
civics, voting, and new civics standards
for 11th and 12th grade students.
The Minnesota Indigenous Education
for All Legislation ensures that all
students learn about Indigenous history
with material approved from the
Tribal Nations. MHC partnered with
Tribal Nations, MDE, and the National
Indian Education Association to host
Learning for Sovereign Futures,
a first-of-its-kind event for educators
to learn about resources to teach
Indigenous history.
The Holocaust, Genocide of Indigenous
Peoples, and other Genocide Education
statute was passed in 2024 and
MHC staff served on the 2025 MDE
implementation committee with scholars
and educators. MHC, at the request
of the implementation committee, is
supporting the development of units
that cover Black genocide and the
Duluth Lynchings.
